Typically, most suggest a higher contrast ratio. But, I'd be more concerned with choosing the set that has the "features" to meet your needs (# of inputs, type of tuners, etc.) and budget.

I have the Sony 32" KDL-32S3000, not the model you listed. It has 2 HDMI inputs, 2 Component Inputs, 2 Video Inputs, a PC Input and has a contrast ratio of 8000:1. I absolutely love it.

I had a 32" Samsung, not the model you listed, before I got the Sony. It was a very nice TV. It had 3 HDMI inputs and I believe card readers, but the HDMI input had an issue where the audio would cut out at times. I don't know if Samsung fully remedied the problem in the model you listed, but the issue I had with my model was documented online.

Simply put, Contrast Ratio is the difference between white and black levels. In other words, a TV that has a contrast ratio of 8000:1 has it's black level 8000 times darker then white. If it's 2000:1, then the black level is 2000 times darker then white. So usually the higher the contrast ratio, the better the picture.

So usually the higher the contrast ratio, the better the picture.

"Better picture" is probably not the best choice of words. Contast ratio is a term used to differentiate between the whitest white and blackest black.

Although it may be a consideration, I would not make any rash purchasing descision based on "contrast ratio" numbers alone. IMO, it's more a marketing "tool" than a technically useful spec for most individuals.
