...It is amazing how rarely I ever see an ad for a tuner, and this in an area where it really is a marketable product. (Dallas TX)

It does seem like in a "full power" digital city like Dallas, CE retailers would try to market STBs more aggressively. However, in my town, where low power is the rule instead of exception, I can understand why they aren't advertised.
I asked a manager at a local electronics store why they didn't actively promote (or even display) STBs. He said the return rate was too high and showed me a stack of returned STBs. Reliable OTA reception here is hit & miss ....

This is never talked about but NO one is advertising 8-VSB receivers. In New York City you are given the third degree if you even try to buy one. They think you are some kind of rare masocistic creature if you even ask. Reason being that they don't work!

Well... why adverstise 8VSB receivers if they serve no purpose on a non-HD set! It's a waste of advertising space and cost.

People are not going to purchase a $450 'box' that they don't need.

Therefore... when people do purchase an HD set, they may or may not choose an STB. BUT... they still know they can go back to the store where they bought the set and get one.

Or just wait for CODFM...
