I have a HDTV Toshiba 34hd82 and about to get COmcast Motorola DCT-5100 here in Atlanta.
Do I need another box as well or do I just take the feed from the DCT-5100 into the TV to get HDTV. Sorry if that's an ignorant question but I noticed that for about $300-$400 Best Buy were trying to sell me another "DIGITAL" box or something?

Unless the Best Buy in your market is selling HD Cable tuners, than you will more than likely not need what they're trying to sell you.
Does Comcast also broadcast the local stations in HD where you're at?

Fox - 804
CBS - 809
NBC - 806
HBOE - 808
HBOW - 881
SHOWE - 890
SHOWW 0 891
I assume the first 3 are local ?

So I don't need anything else ?
Are you saying they were selling a HDTV Tuner for over the air HDTV reception - probably ?
Thanks.

Franc11s, I receive my cable through Comcast using the Motorola 5100. I have a Hitachi set and don’t need any thing other than Comcast’s STB. I believe that Comcast’s policy is to broadcast local ABC, CBS, etc. affiliates, as they do in my area. I would see if you are happy with your STB and cable service before you purchase any other products as you may find you don’t want them. Good luck and enjoy.:D

No fair, you are getting both east and west HBO and Showtime in HD? We're only getting the east channels here. I only get the west channels as SD.

Here in D-town, my Comcast provider gives me channels 179 and 300 for HBO HD. The problem is that there are both HBOE! What is the point, Comcast?

sillygoose,
There is nothing fair about Comcast in MD. They plain suck.
I am waiting for someone to prove me wrong. They are coming tomorrow night for the 4th time. They can't seem to fix my problem with CSN HD.
In addition to only have ABC and NBC local HD.
You already mentioned about only one SHO and HBO.
Enough said.

The HD I get is through my Directv. None of my local channels in my area broadcast in HD.

Ditto here in Baltimore. It doesn't make sense to reserve two channels for the same feed. Unless maybe they're gonna use one of them for HBOW in the future?
I had the same question and needed to talk with three people at Comcast in Massachusetts last month before I got my answer: the Motorola box they rent to you is all you need. Like you I kept hearing that with HDTV ready sets you needed to had a $400 box. In fact, that is what the Motorola DCT5100 is.
Once the tech leaves you will be watching High Def!
