Why won't my Tivo work with the monitor out on my Hitachi.

I plug a RCA conposite video cable to the monitor out of my TV and put it into the RCA composite video in for the TIVO and still no picture...

But it works on a VCR

Here's the weird thing... I remember a friend of mine got a Tivo and could not get it working for the life of him. Since I had one already he called me to help him hook it up.

Well It still would not work. He was fed up with it (a J6P - and just wanted to watch TV) so he sold it to me for $100. I figured I would take it and keep it for parts, or try to fix it. I took it home, pluged it into my satellite and it worked!! :D

I wondered why??? Then I remember that he had a "black box" on his TV... So Tivo must not work somehow.. but now my Tivo won't work with the monitor out. I'm wondering what can be diff about the signal from the monitor out than from regular video out from the satellite rcvr?

I wish my DTV HD rcvr would have both HD and SD out at the same time.. but it is only one or the other. and the upconvert on the DTC 100 makes the picture look 100% when on HD so my Tivo is useless.

thanks

Are you trying to get a signal from the monitor out while you are watching HD signal? I don't think that will work you shouldn't have any trouble with SD signals. I don't think Hitachi's have any kind of a downconverter to do this. This might be more appropriate for the Hitachi forum.

Well I'm trying to get a signal out while watching SD programing that is being upconverted on my DTC 100.

I think the TV thinks it is a HD signal because the aspect ration only gives me the option on 16:9 or 16:9 Zoom.
