Lots of posts here at HDTVoice talk about why sat providers don't have the bandwith to add more HD channels. Here's a camcorder that's compressing HD video down to the same bitrates as a current digital SD recorder. If I do my math correctly (unlikely as that may be), I think that's roughly 12 MBps, or about 1/2 the native resolution of the camera.
Tried to follow the link to the press release on JVC but got a 404 error. I'd be interested to know what the digital interface to the camera is, I'm assuming Firewire. If that were true it might make a dandy HD VCR.
