Try "The Devils Backbone" it's subtitled but really good. Along the same line as "The Others".

Visitor Q.
Summary:
Visitor Q is a disturbing and taboo-bashing experimental work from acclaimed director Takashi Miike (Dead or Alive). The film presents a harrowing, absurdist take on the phenomenon of reality TV, depicting the chilling disintegration of a family. Starring Kenichi Endo, Visitor Q seals Miike's reputation as one of the world's most daring and dangerous cinematic visionaries.
I have not seen it as it is on my list. I did read some review from people who have seen it and they said it was one of the most disturbing films they have seen.

All time scariest movie of all time in my opinoin is still the Exorcist. Somehow, my parents allowed me to watch this movie when I was 8 - so I had nightmares until I was about...well maybe I still do.
Also, I haven't seen it in a long while so I don't remember if the movie as a whole was actually good, but one of the creepiest scenes of all time is when that old guy comes to the door looking for Carol Anne in Poltergeist 3...it creeps me out just thinking about it.
If you like funny/cult horror, try Evil dead 2 - then watch part 3 - Army of Darkness. Some of the best one liners of all time came from part three in my opinion. Not exactly horror but very entertaining.
Some good recent ones, if you haven't seen them is The Others which was very well done, and The Ring if you're looking for that "disturbed for several days" feeling. Blair Witch is good, especially if you know nothing about it.
Oh and if you haven't seen it in a while - Child's Play FREAKED ME OUT when I first saw it.
I almost forgot....one that you might not have seen, that's definitley a must if you haven't is the 1963 version of the Haunting.

im gonna second visitor Q. I recently saw it and let me tell you disturbing is a severe understatement. I'm not going to go into explicit detail just take T-Rage's word for it, and mine. For lack of a better term the movie is ****ED RIGHT UP. And I know personal taste is subjective and all that jazz but some "horror" movies to stay away from would be 13 Ghosts, Fear Dot Com, Jeepers Creepers, any urband legend. My rule of thumb is, if it's rated PG-13, it's crap. So far my theory has a perfect track record, excpet for X-men, I liked that movie.

You might try "The Evil Dead" it's pretty spooky, on a par with Exorcist.

I always thought that the orginal "alien" was
a excellent fright flick. watch it late at night
when the house is dark and quiet.
