my 53" with dish

I recently purchased the latest 53' sony hdtv and I am having problems with the quality of picture. I also switched to dish network and they seem to think that the reason that the picture is a little bit fuzzy is because of my tv. I don't have the HD tuner box, but I expected the quality to be a little bit better than fuzzy. My basketball games look absolutely horrible. One thing that is weird is how lines go through the words when words pop up on the screen sometimes. Has anyone heard of having this much trouble with satelite television with the sonys? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Hi, I have a new 57HW40 HDTV wide screen from Sony and have the same problem with my Dishnetwork. Fuzzy picture specially with sports channels (like ESPN,ESPN2 or any station that broadcast any sport event like TBS, WPIX,NBC). I got a better picture with some HBO's or Cinemax channels.

I'm looking for a calibration but my I'm in Puerto Rico some out of the range for a good calibrator.

If you have any solution please let me know. I called Dishnetwork and they told me that the receiver 6000 will solve part of the problem (maybe they didn't understand me well because I refering to normal Dishnetwork broadcast not HDTV programming). I read a review in www.epinions.com about this TV set and one of the review said that the sony DRC technology has some problem doubling the resolution. Normal HDTV RPTV line doubler to 480P but the Sony's use 960i (interlaced).

I actually got a somewhat intelligent response from dish this time. The rep explained that Dish recently added a bunch of local channels for all of the different markets in the US and this is where the problem started. He explained that by adding all of these channels they went above the amount of information that could be passed through a certain bandwith. So to get all of these new channels set up, they had to reduce the quality to get the certain quantity. But there is supposed to be a new satelite going out this summer to improve the situation I guess. This made sense for the most part.

These t.v.s perform well when there is a good signal...(look at a DVD for instance). The problem is with Dishnetwork/Directv. OVERCOMPRESSED VIDEO because the mass majority people seem to think its better to have more channels than to have picture quality. Directv and Dish when they first started out (pre-locals) picture wasn't toooo bad. Now they must offer more satellites different dishes or hardware to try to accomplish what they set out to do. That is why I've chosen to use C-band BIG DISH 4DTV, at least I know that I've chosen the best possible broadcast available both for regular cable type programs and I get 6 channels of HDTV... 2 HBO's, 2 Showtimes, PBS, and HD Discovery channel.. and at a great price for programming. I haven't seen much talk in this forum about C-band. I realize big dish is not for the masses but its funny to see people spend mucho bucks for these t.v.s only to watch them on poor quality signals. My standard 1st generation Analog signals confuse people for HD, then I change to a HD channel and it blows their mind. Good luck with your selection.
