I have the original SXRD, the XBR-1 and got an Extended Service Plan in May of 07. It turns out that the only problems I've had with the set were with the Optical Block, and that is covered by Sony already until June 30 2009. Sony sent me a letter saying that they would reimburse me for the service plan I bought if I respond before August 5th. I paid $330 for the service plan and I believe it is good until May of 2010. My question is, should I take the money from them or should I keep the Extended Warranty? It would be nice to have that money back but I also dont want the Optical block going out again, so I'm not really sure what to do. It's been a year and 3 months since the last time my optical block was replaced, and the set has been just fine since then. Gregg Lowen from Lionav is an ISF expert and he told me via phone conversation that he thinks the optical blocks will continue to mess up over time no matter which block you get. So, I dont know really. So basically, if I keep the plan, I will have roughly an extra year of warranty after June 2009 covering the tv, as opposed to another 11 months with them only covering the optical block AND getting my money back. What would you guys do?
