I just bought the Onkyo HT-S650 system and it sounds great. It plays Dolby Digital 5.1 greatly. But when I want to play a DVD that is also DTS 5.1 and I have chosen DTS 5.1 from the DVD audio set up screen, and the movie begins playing but the reciever says it is playing Pro Logic II instead of DTS 5.1 on the front of the reciever(Pro Logic II is highlighted insted of DTS). I know the reciever supports DTS. Please help me!
Also someone please tell me if DTS 5.1 sounds better than Dolby Digital 5.1 or vice-versa. Thanks.
Many receivers "default" to DD. You may need to press a "button" to activate DTS. Check your receiver's operating manual on how to cycle through the various audio options.
There was a thread arguing the pros and cons of DD & DTS a short while ago, I just can't find it right now. DTS is less compressed than DD, but to be honest some people prefer DD, some prefer DTS with strong opinions on both sides.
Suggest you make up your own mind.
Edit - found the thread - link below:

Also make sure DTS output is enabled on your DVD player setup and is set to bitstream not PCM.
On my Onkyo receiver there is a place in the setup for digital input type,(I set mine to DTS for testing when I had a problem) It should be set to auto so it will work for both.
BTW DTS is much better :D
Good Luck!
