WOW that page is awesome, and Panasonic ROCKS in the DVD world. Screw my Sony Im going to get a Panny DVD next time...............
The 82 has been "sold out" for a while. The replacements are supposed to be as good. The "72" is also an option, although it was never available in Canada.

do you know when the new models are supposed to arive. Id love to pick up the new model from the rp82 or even the rp62. ive noticed that my local Best Buy has the rp62 and its only 149.99. thats way cheap............

also noticed that my current dvd player is kinda above average from their chart listing...........
I think the 62 has been available for as little as US$130. Why are you looking at a new(er) player if you already have an "above average" new one? Money burning a hole in your pocket?

I just received the new Crutchfield catalog in the mail, and it has the RP82 featured as a NEW item in it!? I am assuming that they received a new shipment of them, but I could be wrong. They do not have it on the website, though. I bought mine from Crutchfield about 4 months ago. It is the best player I have ever owned!

They don't have any. I called today. Don't have any, don't expect any and don't know of a replacement. I don't understand why they are not available if they are so good.

Panasonic discontinued because they cost more to make than they sold for. The replacement is the DVD-XP50 or XP30 if you do not want DVD-audio ability.

The only place to get the RP-82 is on Ebay
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=Panasonic+RP82
They sell for about 450-500

Those are region free though, so the XP30 is the replacment for the rp82................
BTW XP-50 will play DVD Audio. XP-30 will not.

well i guess after thinking about it awhile and being more rational i guess ill wait to get another player. the only reason i was wanting to do this is because right now ive got 2 dvd players in my entertainment center. one is a decent interlaced player that i bought for my wife before we got married BUTTTT plays MP3's, and i have my Sony prog. scan which still looks good but of course doesnt play mp3's. thats one of the reasons i wanted the XP30 or RP82 if i could find it..............

Ok. The XP30 is the replacement for the RP82. Can I assume that the quality of the picture will be as good. The xp30 is more readily available than the rp82 at less cost. Which is the best between these two?

for a few dollars more go check the Yamaha C920 and/or 6480. DDCi on the video end and SUPERB sound for DVD-D, DVD-A, CD, VCD, MP3, CD-R/RW and some DVD-R...due to Burr-Brown audio DACs.
These are 5 disk changers and are well built. But the only odd thing is that there is no ON/OFF on the remote control and no way to program it. oh well, I don't care cuz the video and audio is just too damn good for ~ $350 USD.

Update on the XP30 and 50 both are now discontinued. Panasonic feels that there is no Medium price market--300-dollar range. They are concentrationg on the 125 and under market. Retailers are starting to bump up the prices of these because of the demand. Get one before they are gone.
