I have a Toshiba 42H81 and last night I bought a new DVD player and Receiver to replace my old ones. Well everything appears to be ok except when watching DVD's I get horizontal lines at loud noises. I am using the TV's speaker as my center channel. Anytime there is shouting or explosions, etc., I get the lines. Now when I unplug the center channel they go away. What gives? Must I use a separate center channel.
Thanks for the help.
Very informative board.
Welcome to the forum.
Most TVs require a "line out" signal (low power) from a receiver for the center channel (similar to the LFE for subwoofers). Most A/V receivers don't have this feature. Are you perhaps using a regular "speaker" connection (high power). This may be feeding too much power into your circuits and could damage your TV.
This is the reason most people cannot use their TV as a center channel. You may wish to consider a dedicated center channel speaker. The TV speakers are pretty "bad" anyway - they cost about $1.

Yes, I am using a regular speaker connection. Since I already have a center speaker, maybe I should just use that. Thank you.
