hey guys, got a question. i'll have my 51 inch hitachi hdtv in about four weeks. very excited! i'm shopping around for a new dvd player to go with it. i'v seen the 5 disc philips player at best buy for$129. while reading the specs on these players i saw 3:2 pulldown, is this different from 2:3 or is it just a typo? if there is a 3:2, will it do the same as the 2:3? does anyone have any info on philips players? are they any good? the price is perfect for me but i dont want an inferior picture. how is the sound processing? the specs sheet says it doesn,t have a 5.1 decoder or a dts decoder but my receiver has both, will i be losing anything or is that the norm? i currently have two toshibas that i bought about 4 or 5 years ago (for $280 each) and one of them will not read and load the discs anymore.

Some people call it 2:3, others call it 3:2. It's the same thing. In the FAQ section there is a post on 2:3 pulldown.

Since the movie frame rate is 24 fps and TV is 30, two frames from the movie get "pulled" to 3 frames in TV, so I prefer 2:3, but you say tom-ah-to, I say tom-eh-to...

The TV probably also has 2:3 pulldown, but most manufactures have a special name for it and many "hide" the function in the "movie, film, cinema" mode...

There is nothing wrong with using the receiver's decoder for DD5.1 or DTS, as a matter of fact, most people recommend it.
