Opinions on HD this time around?
Personally, I think they're doing an excellent job overall. Technically, at least. Way better than in '04 (when HD was still relatively new and the gee-whizz gadgets weren't always working right). Coverage seems to be nearly 100% HD and 5.1 surround, now. (Of course, I'm referring to *all* the NBC Olympic HD networks here, since it looks like they're supposed to go in this forum.)
I do admit noticing compression artifacts, once in a while, especially the Prime Time track races (runners legs sometimes get the "Sunday Night PixelBall" effect mentioned in NBC threads) but for the most part the HD images are nothing short of spectacular. The many angles, multiple slo-mo, and graphics overlays seem to be working great. It looks like it was all well-thought-out.
It also looks like if you have Universal HD you can get every match that's on either CNBC or MsNBC in Hi-Def. There's also a dedicated HD basketball channel and a dedicated HD Soccer channel (if your provider carries them). Adding in USAHD and the NBC network, that's five HD channels! There's even replays and stuff you can get on-demand in HD.
