Hi
just joined today. I know you have answered this 100 times before, Sorry.
I have a panasonic 47/49 widescreen TV.
I woud like to get receiver so I can receive hdtv. I am using comcast cable. Not the digital but the analog.
I would appreciate any recommendations on brand and where to buy to get best price. Thanks everyone!!!
Also is there a problem using analog and getting hdtv?
Welcome to the forum.
1. HDTV is digital, so you need a digital HD box.
2. Analogue is not capable of delivering HD images.
3. Most cable companies "rent" you the digital box (for a nominal charge) and you typically don't have any choice of manufacturer - they use Scientific Atlanta and Motorola..
4. Sometimes you also have to subscribe to digital services.
5. You cannot usually buy your own cable box since it needs to be "activated" by the cable company.
6. You will need to check with Comcast as to whether thay have upgraded their system in your area so that you can receive HD and what channels they provide.
7. You also need to have an HDTV (HDTV ready or integrated). A standard Analogue TV cannot receive HD images, even if it is widescreen.

Since you didn't explicitly say that you wanted to get HDTV from comcast I will assume that you may have meant you wanted to get HDTV via an antenna. If that wasn't what you meant ignore this and 57U covered all the important stuff about HDTV over cable. For HDTV OTA if you tv does not have and DTV tuner you will need an OTA HDTV receiver and a suitable antenna. You should have no trouble using both your analog cable and OTA HDTV.
Ah, yes, I guess I "inferred" that you wanted HD via cable. If you're looking at OTA options, you can also look at the FAQ section, see the post on Antennae - good links in there...
Satellite is another option of course...

My questions were answered perfectly.
I was referring to cable not antenna.
I will go read the FAQ right now.
THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!
