I had a message on my cable box saying they will be carrying the Masters in HD on ch 184. I looked on the guide and it says WVLTD (my local CBS station). Anybody else heard anything about comcast carrying CBS cause it looks like its here in Knoxville, TN.

That would be wonderful news.

A question for you - how does one retrieve a message from the motorola box???

They sent the message out to the Seattle market too. The channel will be up in the 190 range I think (I deleted the message) but have not set it up yet. If it is really CBS then I hope they get to keep it after the masters.

The last I heard Comcast was still "negotiating" with CBS. Havn't gotten any messages about it on my box though. Thats OK, I get CBS digital OTA.

All of us Comcast subscribers should pester them about adding ESPN-HD!

Yeah, I thought they were in negotiations as well. Thats why I was so shocked to see this message on my box. I don't know if it stays after the Masters or not. I don't own a HD set anyway:(

leadvocal,
I havent heard anything as well for here in MD.

RX-7,
Are you not receiving CBS HD with Comcast in TN?

billw,
Let me clarify my situation a bit. I do not own a HD set, just been researching and shopping a bit. I do have Comcast digital cable service. I know that Comcast started carrying ABC, NBC and FOX too I believe (even though there not HD). But, they did not have CBS HD and were in negotiations to carry it at some time in the future but were very vague about when and had no definite date. Are you saying that Some other cities already had CBS HD on Comcast ?????? If so, I was not aware of it. I'm confused about what your asking/saying.

To answer your question, some areas already receive CBS-HD through Comcast. I am in the Philadelphia area and we don't have it, but I've read that some areas do have it according to what people were saying on this forum. Comcast is still negotiating with the local CBS affiliate in my area.

AS I understand it Comcast carries CBS affiliates that they have negotiated with that are not owned by CBS- I know that WBZ in Boston is owned by CBS (along with WSBK and WLWC). I believe that Baltimore/DC is in the same boat.

I have littel info even from Avsforum on this, mostly rumor and hearsay. same for ESPN HD on Comcast, but that is supposely related to ESPN wanting an additional .80 per HD subscriber, and Comcast is not willing to bend. Considering that COmcast's Boston offering is 5 channels, I'm throughly dissapointed.

It is only the Baltimore CBS that Comcast doesn't carry. I get the DC CBS just fine from Comcast.

Then Baltmore CBS is owned by CBS. I have the luxury of OTA for broadcast networks here in Boston, but we still only get ABC NBC and the PBS loop.

They don't carry the Philadelphia CBS either.

I was just looing at avsforum, and apparantly WPRI (CBS PRovidence) is expected to go live in May. I suspect that we'll see them before I see WBZ. They are not a Corporate CBS, but a franchisee.

sillygoose,
you are not close enough to the baltimore market to receive a "blackout" on the channel.

The counties affected by this are the 3 closest to the tower.
Baltimore, Harford and Howard counties.

I assume it is a distance thing (mileage)

What do you mean by a "blackout"? I don't receive the Baltimore CBS at all via cable. I receive the DC CBS all the time via cable. With an antenna I could get both. Because our county is closer to DC than Baltimore those are the only local channel they broadcast on our cable. I heard that PG county gets both which seems rather odd but besides the point. The reason we get a CBS channel and those in the Baltimore area don't is because the DC CBS is owned by a different company. The owner of the Baltimore CBS and several other CBS locals has not yet reached an agreement with Comcast for carriage.

sillygoose,
I used "blackout" loosely....the point is you are in a market that has negotiated with Comcast...as you said it..it is not an affiliate that is directly owned by CBS.

I can reach the DC CBS by station OTA as well with a decent antenna but since I am in the Baltimore market Comcast can not broacast WJZ.

It sucks.

silly...where do u live? I live in AA County and don't get CBS HD at all. I have both Baltimore and DC CBS Stations on my regular cable. I've been hearing the same "negioation" BS for months now. I don't care what CBS HD I get...I just want it. If it's available in DC then give it us then! This is nuts. And the same goes for ESPN HD. Still waiting on that crap too!!

With Comcast you'll be waiting a while. ESPN wants a fee for their HD feed and the President of Comcast has said he is not willing to pay.

It's official, HDTV is "available" at least in the Boston area, so now let's see if we get CBS and ESPN.

Copy/paste or click: http://www.cranberrystressline.com/hdim01.jpg for a scan of the latest brochure, which dropped out of our Comcast New England bill. Yes, it is official, now that Comcast has sent us this happy fellow holding his remote like - dare I say - a pool cue. Yup, here it is folks. The much anticipated formal announcement.

I thought, Wow, an entire 16 page booklet on HDTV. We should be so lucky. Page three has a few HDTV technical facts, then pages 4-5 might, for those who are wishfull, lead one to believe that our New England sports network, NESN, is going to be in HDTV (no, just a two page ad for their baseball package). Pages 6-7 tell us the "HDTV has arrived" and touts the fact that "many networks like ABC, NBC, HBO and Showtime are creating special programs that take advantage of HDTV's vivid color, amazing detail and incredible sound."

I looked very closely at these two pages, even reading the fine print with a magnifying glass hoping to read "Comcast is in negotiations with CBS and ESPN to broadcast their HDTV lineups." Dream on.

The rest of the booklet is hohum information and ads for other services.

it's finally true! Our beloved NESN will be in HD! Starting Monday Sept 15 the Red Sox game that night will be broadcast on the inHD 2 channel. Can't wait to see that! The rest of the home games for the sox on NESN should be in HD. Check it out!
