Hello, I am a newbie who is unclear exactly as to what the difference
between a decoder and a reciever is, if there is a difference, and which one I need. Also what is it
and what does it do. Here is the most likely scenario(s).

Have a Mitsubishi WS-65907 HDTV ready set. Just purchased Xbox which is
1080i capable, so it boasts. Want to use XBox in 1080, as well as local
channels that are broadcast in HD format.

Will a decoder/reciever do these? What if I have more than one HD device?
What do I need and what should I get?

Thank you,
Dan Harris

Cool, you got the Xbox. I am probably going to purchase one for my kid so he can play on the big screen. I did some research and you need to purchase a $20 High Definition AV Pack that plugs between the game system and the tv - you should have enough inputs on your tv for this. My tv has two component inputs which are required for 1080i (Xbox, SIRT150).

Then get a Samsung SIRT150 for local HD broadcasts. You can attach a UHF antenna and hook this unit directly to your HD-ready tv using another input and instantly get 1080i broadcasts from the local networks.

I found the SIRT150 for $449 (customer return) at Best Buy and they are running a $100 rebate thru June 2002. Another good place to buy this unit is at ABT Electronics (http://www.abtelectronics.com/scripts/site/site_product.php3?id=6184).

Hope this helps.
