Has anyone heard any news on this new DVD player coming out?If it is really going to convert like it says it will?

From CES

"The best DVD player I saw at the show was Samsung's DVD-HD931, the picture quality is stunning. This $349 player, available in June, converts regular DVD discs to high-quality definition (720p, or 1,080 interlaced). It's also a DVD-audio player." and it seems it will also be using the Genesis FLI2310 chip. What do you guys think, A nice replacement for the Panasonics? Also for the upconvert you may mandatory need a DVI input.

That player is a complete joke. Its been talked about in a previous thread that I actually started. I was blown away until I read the fine print at the bottom of Samsungs website. Itll only convert NON-Copyright movies to 720p or 1080i. Problem is 99.9999999% of dvd movies are copyrighted. So that player is usless...............

Yes, I went to the link, but I'm curious, the model I'm talking about isn't out yet, the DVD-HD931, though this may still be the same case with it also, I am hoping by using a DVI output, that they may be able to overcome this issue. I read somewhere else (can't remember) that not using DVI will only allow 480p. Who knows, wishfull thinking.

Even if it did somehow upconvert to 720p or 1080i the movie still isnt going to look all that much better cause its still coming from a standard DVD that isnt encoded for 1080i. Kinda like this you can take a standard VHS tape that has 200 lines of resolution and watch it on a HDTV. Well the tv will upconvert the picture to 480i but it still doesnt look as good as a DVD that is encoded for 480i. Until HD DVD comes out they can upconvert regular DVD's all they want it still wont look as good............

I have one coming, and from what everyone is saying on the Home Theater Spot fourm, it will up convert ANY dvd to 720p or 1080i. You must have a HDCP DVI input though.

I think the same is true of the Bravo D1, it upconverts on DVI/HDCP, but not component video output.

This allays the fears of the MPAA, because they don't mind you "watching" high def. as long as you can't record it, which DVI/HDCP maintains, although you can't really record CV output either.... weird.
