These players are on EBAY for $190 with shipping. This player scored as well as the unavailable RP82's in the shootout. Anyone know any reason not to buy one? Sounds too good to be true.
I just got a Panasonic 42" plasma and I'm trying to match components.

I will unfortunately not get mine before the guys deadline runs out, but I will let everybody know if it what is promised on ebay - factory sealed new with Warranty for 189 bucks including shipping. Who knows the same guy might have some more soon. Worth it especially since ebay covers up to 200 bucks.....Not sure how he got these considering that he is selling like 5 of them, but whatever lets see what he ships

Is it worth an extra $45 for DVD-A? Is that a DVD format that is often used?

I think the extra $45 is well worth having DVD-A or SACD. The audio quality of these dvd's are the sh*t! (that's very good for the non-slang folks). I would pick it up.

I know the ebayer your talking about, because I bought an xp-30 from him several weeks ago. Feedback is great.. HOWEVER.. if you buy one you will probably have to wait about 3-4 weeks to receive it. I am actually still waiting on the item.. and after 3 weeks it finally has been shipped... (I can track its progress). Will let you know if it is indeed brand new when it arrives here on monday

The Xp 50 gives you Faroudja video processing and DVA. If you can get this for under 3 bills, get it becuase they are soon to be gone and you will not get this again for that price. As it is now they are a 150 more than the XP30

Did you buy yours from a guy named Matthew in NY?
I just sent the check today so if you let me know on Monday then I still have the option of pulling it back if he is screwing with us.
Also, how would it work with the factory warranty - do you know? What date would they use for warranty start date?

And people say you can't get good service these days - they obviously hasn't visited this site :)
Seriously though - appreciate the feedback once you get it (heard it is easier to install after receiving the unit) - I will look around about the warranty and see what I can find out on Panasonic's homepage etc - could be a register your product option somewhere

Received the unit!! brand new in sealed box.. no damage. I havent tried it out yet, I received this at work
(UPS has a habit of delivering stuff to my work instead of home, even if home address is on lable) they know where i work and i have never delivered anything here.. scary stuff :)
anyhow.. i will make sure unit works, but it looks in pristine shape!! And let me add.. what a pretty little thing!!!!!

Thanks!
Guess I will let my check clear and hope to receive mine in the same condition - can't wait to get it going. I have a bunch of DVD's that while they look nice on the tv using the P2 are far from what they should become soon :)
Let me know if you see anything in the box about the warranty - might post something on the main-page about that since it applies to all types of products bought from other sources than the stores - guessing we might end up without the factory coverage but thinking it is worth it. Actually ebay have the policy about refund / partial refund if object isn't in the right condition - wonder if you can get some back if there isn't any factory warranty....hmmm :)
Thanks for the update and let me know if there is something else about this unit that comes up.

So about 2 weeks ago I bid on the XP30 on ebay ($180) and won the item - great. Same night I saw the XP50 for 45bucks more on 6ave.com - well I had committed to a deal and was going to honor it. I sent the check for the XP30 - happy with my purchase.....A week later the check was returned and the seller told me in the letter that he didn't have the item (why he didn't email I don't know). I go online to 6ave.com - sold out.....ok this sucks I missed the XP50 for 225 and I missed the xp30.
So back to ebay - I order the XP30 from another seller $199 now and I pay immediately using paypal. Same night I see the XP50 with a Panasonic receiver (decent) at ebay and I talked to the seller offline (went below reserve) and I could get it all for about 450 - but I just bought the XP30 so I tell him no thanks, but appreciate it.............
Woke up yesterday and got the email from the XP30 selller telling me he is out as well - refunded me immediately - better feedback, same result.
So on my way home I go by Tweeter - kind of new in town and just found their store. Over in a corner they have the XP50 on display hiding under a portable screen. I ask the guy if they have an unopened unit and he tells me no way they sold out a while ago, but he will sell me the opened unit for $250. I told him - ok let me take it home and check it out. He goes to enter it in the system and guess what - they had one more unit sitting in the warehouse in a corner and they had been telling all these people they were out :) - got it for $250 as well since the unit is discontinued..................now I think that is a funny road to a DVD-player

I just received my XP30 from Sharper Image yesterday. After hooking it up and setting the user controls the first thing i did was pop in my Ovation Sound & Vision Home Theatre Tune Up DVD and guess what? The XP30 had a HELL of a time trying to navigate it. It was having trouble changing menus and took over a minute for the calibration tests to come up after I had selected them, and the calibration tests would only play through once and then freeze, to get them to run again i'd have to turn off the player and start all over again.....
Every other DVD i've tried has worked great and the PQ is exceptional. Has anyone else noticed this 'quirk'?
-Sp
p.s. the tune up dvd worked fine on my old apex 1500 and toshiba players
I have heard that:
1. The AVIA DVD caused some navigation issues on some older DVD players - I'm talking 1999-2000. I believe there's a link to this on the keohi site somewhere, but I don't have time to look for it now.
2. That some of the Panasonic players are extremely slow at "recognizing/initializing" the DVD and then navigating. This is not usually an issue with movies - you pop in a DVD a minute or two before you want to watch the movie and then hit play. It is a problem when you want to "navigate"... Others on this forum with Pannys should be able to provide more information.
3. Perhaps you got a "bad" S&V DVD that for some reason the Panny picks up, whereas the APEX did not? I've not heard others mention these issues and there must be a lot of them out there by now.. Have you looked at the S&V DVD for smudges, etc. Perhaps you can give it a cleaning (wipe from center to outside).

I am not sure if this is the same situation, I have had Panny RP62 for more than a year now. It does a great job of reading any material I put in it.
I have burnt .avi and .mpg movies on VCDs and it reads them with no problem. I have AVIA and I dont have any problems browsing thru the menus.
It reads DVD-R and DVD+R without any problems.
I have never had freezing problem.
My dads 3 year old samsung player doesnt read many formats.

Well I guess this will finally make me learn my lesson about buying stuff over the internet. The new XP-30 I got on Tuesday is now dead. It was working fine this morning, but now every DVD I try it just reads......... and then tells me that it's not valid media.
I'm hoping that this will somehow self-remedy, but it's probably wishful thinking...
Shop locally and save yourself $350.00
:- After further testing it seems that it will play burned SVCDS but not regular retail DVD's..... very strange.
Does anyone know a repair location in Hamilton/Toronto that might be able to look at this problem?
