Anybody out there have any first-hand experience with the RCA D34W20? It's a widescreen 34" flat tube HDTV monitor (essentially the same as the 34" RCA Scenium without the built-in DVD player). After comparing several sets of this size, I think it has a slightly better picture overall than Toshiba or Sony. And it seems to be about the least expensive 34" set out there (except for no-name brands). But I am concerned about reliability. Anybody have this set or know someone who has? Are you satisfied? How has it held up? Any and all comments welcome! I hear that it was included in the Dec. 02 issue of Consumer Reports. Anybody recall what they wrote? Thanks!

They listed it last in the wide screen 30 & 34 inch widescreen sets after Philips (30"), Toshiba, (34"), Samsung (30"), and Panasonic (30 & 34'). Cable antenna picture - good, s video picture - very good, sound - very good, ease of use - good.

Somebody on another forum was very impressed with the picture (HD, I presume),

You are correct about it being the least expensive,i picked mine up yesterday and am very pleased. Lacks some functionability, but picture is great with the right settings. Miss my big screen but picture clarity is way better!

Last week I bought the Dish Network's package deal of 34" HD set and their new 811 HD receiver for $999 plus tax. Their website tells virtually nothing about the HD set but it is an RCA D34W20 with a Dish face plate on it. RCA even sells different face plates to match your decor. I am very happy with the tv though I have a few issues with the 811 that should get resolved with software downloads. The set works very well in analog and the HD PQ is great. The Dish deal supposedly expires at the end of the month.

I got a display model at Sams Club for $1,000. I am hoping their return policy is as good as Costco's. I have had it for a month and have been very happy with it.

Right now I use a Samsung t151 with it and the HD programs look great. I am getting the dish 811 to get more programming.

I like the PIP mode for regular tv. PIP does not work with HD mode though.

The size is perfect for my apartment.

I think that direct view (tube) is the best as far as picture, bright ness, and viewing angle goes. Heavy as a SOB but hopefully I won't be moving it much.

As far as reliability goes, let's hope that RCA got its act together.

I would like to hear other people's experience.

Got mine in February as part of Dish's "HDTV in a box" deal along with their 811 receiver. I prefer the clarity vs. projection monitors. It is SUPER heavy (170lbs) but once in place who cares? The sound is a bit weak...but who among us won't be using a 5.1 system so again, who cares? So far no problems with the TV, only a few with the receiver, but software downloads seem to fix the bugs. One odd thing is the image-size control. One set of buttons and sizes for HDTV, another set of buttons and sizes for the other video inputs. Yeah, no PIP for HDTV, but why watch HDTV in split screen anyway? That just ain't right. All-in-all a good deal for me!
