I was going to get the kids the Shrek DVD and all I seem to find is the 2 disc collector set and I believe it is full screen version. Was this available in a widescreen or widescreen anamorphic?

I was going to buy a DVD last week and the ratio was 1:1.77 and now I can't for the life of me remember the title.

My treasures for today include, Supernatural Live - Santana, Batman The Movie (Holy Special Edition Batman! - 1966) and The Karate Kid (Steven tests for his Orange Belt next week so will make a nice little prize for him)! Then yesterday I found the WS version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for only 12.99 @ COSTCO (we already had full-screen from before the new tv). HELP I can't stay out of the DVD department in various stores!!! ;)

Yep, it's on the second disk - WS Anamorphic. Made the same mistake myself once. Put in the disk - wasn't widescreen....hmmm....

Mike/Deana - 1.78:1 is 16:9 - isn't that a good ratio for HDTVs?

(if you ever measure the actual 1.85:1 and 2.35:1 DVD aspect ratios on your screen, you'll actually find a lot of variation - this was recently discussed in another thread on widescreen TV shows.)

The only thing I thought about Shrek is on the widescreen version you get DTS and Dolby Digital choices and on the pan and scan disc only Dolby digital. I guess because of the extras they needed the extra space. Oh also don't forget Friday X-Men 2 is comming out at the theaters should be pretty cool. Maybe by X-mas they will have a collector's 2 pack out with both 1 and 2 in it.

I just didn't realize it while out shopping that day that it was. There are so many different formats when one first starts buying or renting lots of DVD's that it takes a week or two to get them all memorized.
