Just picked up a Panasonic 36" HDTV monitor and now I have to figure out which receiver to get. Before I decide which one will fit my needs the most I need to know what the best way to connect my xbox would be. Is there a way to connect the xbox to the receiver and then to the TV?

Connect the XBox directly to the tv using the HD AVPack and a good set of component cables. This will unlock the 480p gaming option. Games look unbelievable.

Ok, I do have it connected directly to the tv with the HD AVpac and component cables. Since my tv isn't HD ready will I still see it in 480p?

I don't think I am understanding. In your original post, you said you had a 36" HDTV monitor, how is it not HD ready?

If your TV is capable of displaying a HD picture, just enable the 480p option on the XBox dashboard (turn the XBox on with no game in it) and the games will be shown in 480p.

You do not need a receiver to somehow activate your tv for HD reception, your monitor should be able to display a HD picture from almost any source. The XBox outputs a 480p signal, like your receiver would if you were watching FOX, and your TV is capable of displaying the picture.

Good Luck

Sorry folks,

But, you're all wrong. The X-BOX is NOT progressive scan. If you read the box carefully, you'll find it's limited to 480I NOT 480P. It is NOT a progressive scan dvd-player and you can't make it one. I learned this just before buying it.

If you intend to buy it because it's got a great picture and yes, it does offer some widescreen games, it's worth it. But, don't think for a moment that it's progressive scan in any manner. It's not.

Sorry.

Actually, you are incorrect (for the most part)
Xbox DVD playback is not in PS and is not capable of it. However, the posters in this thread are referring to 480p playback of the actual games, not DVD playback. 480p is the norm for almost ALL xbox games and 1080i is probably a couple months away!

Mboy,

You are actually correct. I meant to address only those who were buying the x-box as a progressive scan means for dvd. I realize the games can support up to 1080I. I had hoped that the x-box would support 480p so that it would make it easier for me instead of buying a separate progressive scan dvd for my hdtv.
