Just viewed this model at Best Buy. Wow. No such thing as a better picture. Anyone with a DLP, I'd love to hear from , as I am sold on this incredible picture. The Mits were blown away, of course by the comparison. There were no diamonds present, nor am I able to see an elite side-by-side, but I think I've made my choice....would love to hear from anyone who owns one of these DLP's.....thanks. mb

I have the new HLN5065. The HD pictures are great. The best is live sports shot in HD.

Digital channels range from very good to just OK. Analog stations (if you have cable, these will be 2-81 ) are very poor if you go through a cable box. You will need to split your signal before it gets to the cable box and send it directly to the Ant-A connection or to a VCR to tune. This makes most analog stations watchable. Of course, as time goes on, more shows will be in HD and you won't have this problem (unless you have Comcast and want ESPNHD like so many of us HD fans).

I have had a samsung 5065 DLP for over a month now, and am very pleased with it. I get a good to very good digital picture which has improved as the set is broken in. DVD is outstanding using my Panasonic HR82 (the one that won the dvd shootout). I don't yet have HD, as I live in the booddocks and am awaiting the arrival of the mythical "super dish" by Dish Sat. It took me awhile to get used to the stretch modes on sat tv broadcasts, but now I accustomed to it. I feel that I have bought new technology rather than the old (and heavy!) rear projection...........mb;)

I've had my 61" since March and could't be happier. I bought without really doing good research, but relied on my eyes. Now that I've really gotten into it, I feel I made the right decision. Mate this with the Samsung HD 931 DVD player and be prepared to be blown away!

Here is a link to Extreme Tech - Samsung DLP (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,1119467,00.asp) article about a reviewer who bought & returned 5 other HDTV's. He kept the Samsung. Lots of good info on the samsung unit and some real-world experiences.

Purchased this Samsung(HLN507W) and have experienced
inside the screen green reflections.Very bad and will be returned
if replacing light engine does not fix. Other owners have reported this problem.Waiting to see the results other owners post.
Samsung was great with customer service,so far,...but they don't monitor the forums, because they have no record of previous complaints. Without this problem HD and DVD are great.Directv is a mixed bag, some channels really suck.

I bought a Samsung HLM507W last year and couldn't be happier. What are the differences between my model and the newer HLN models?

I saw the 50" dlp model at CircuitCity the other day, and was quite impressed, especially since the cabinet size is around 17" deep! If I were in the market today for a hdtv set, this would be in my top 5 sets (including plasma and lcd screens). The price to performance ratio on this set looks great! I asked about availability and the salesman mentioned that the sets are backordered everywhere.

I have the HLN5065W and couldn'tbe more pleased with it. I use it with DVD and a TW cable box made by Pioneer. The cable signal is amazing for HD, outstanding for digital channels (es[especially HBO which looks as good as DVD) and good to very good for the analog channels.

I've had a 5065W DLP for less than a week. I don't have HD yet because I need a new satellite receiver. Samsung currently has a promotion where they are including a Samsung 931 DVD player for free. DVDs are awesome. I tuned the picture as best I could using the THX configurator. I will probably acquire something more sophisticated for picture tuning.
My only issue is that the set is noisy. When sound volume is low you can hear a constant hum.

I have the hln437w and use comcast for content. I love this TV, the size and weigth make it easy to manage and the picture quality is spectacular with HD. As others have said the digitial content is good and the anolog content varies from fair to good. I did a lot of research, heard about rainbows, reflections ect. When I viewed the system at CC I did not notice any PQ problems and have not seen any PQ problems since the set was delivered over a month ago.

The only issue - I want more HD content!!

Where did everyone get their stands? I just bought a 61, but really do not want to shell out $600 for the stand.

You can put the TV on any flat surface big enough and strong enough. Try a place like Ikea...

I got my 50incher at Bestbuy when it first hit the store and I love it. Seeing HD in the store is one thing, but watching it in the comfort of you home with surround and a beer in you hand, life is good. :p

I got a Bell'o AVS 422T stand for about $220 at Best Buy. It is a great match for the HLN5065 (most peole who see it think it came with the set) and has two glass shelves with enough height and width to hold my receiver (HKAVR520), DVD player, VCR, cable box and center speaker(right under the HLN5065). The top shelf is 24" off the floor and is large enough to hold the base of the TV with room to spare. The product description says it will hold up to a 36" TV or a 42" plasma but both of those weigh much more than the hln5065 which is a great match in every way.

This link should take you to the stand on the BB web site :

I have had my 50 inch HLN DLP for 2 weeks now and I love it. I just wish there was more HD to watch. I got the free DVD with it too. I sprung for the stand and it looks great in my living room. I researched quite a bit before buying. You can't go wrong with this. The only think I don't like is with the cable box. On the composite input you can't stretch the picture so you alwasy get bars on the side unless it is HD so I switch back and forth between HD and S Video. Also can anyone tell me the difference between Wide and Panorama?

The signal at the composite input is meant to be viewed in 4:3 and needs to be stretched out in order to fill a 16:9 screen. Most 16:9 sets have several algorithms for doing that. Wide simply stretchs the entire image horizontally to fill the screen. That distorts images so that people look wide for their height, etc. Panorama leaves the center of the image alone and stretches the sides more so that the part you spend the most time looking at is normal and the sides of the image are stretched a lot. Its OK until a character moves from the side to the center or vice versa and then it looks like something is wrong with your set ! I perfer to just watch 4:3 material in its native mode. The black bars were a big problem on crt based rear projection tvs because they lead to unequal aging of the phosphors (burn-in). That isn't a problem on a DLP set, so the stretch modes aren't really needed unless you prefer watching a distorted image.

Harvey, I think he meant to say component, not composite. I've mistyped it myself sometimes.

Thanks for the clarification on Wide/Panorama. Can you tell me what the other stretch modes on the Sammy are and I can add it to the FAQ on WS stretch modes.

Linear horizontal stretch - Wide (for anamorphic DVDs)
non-linear horizontal stretch - panorama (for 4:3 programming - if you want)
no stretch (natural/native?) - ???
linear vertical and horizontal stretch (for non-anamorphic DVDs) - ???
Any others?
