I have had a 1300 for about 6 months now and it it an
outstanding machine...my only reservation about it is
that there is no offboard processing loop..can't use
an equalizer with it. Other than that it is outstanding,
great sound, flexible, no compaints.

Hey, you've already chosen a very good brand, now you should look at the features to make sure the receiver does what you want. Don't worry too much about power, most receivers have more than enough, especially if you're going to have an active subwoofer.

Usually the more power, the more features (and visa versa)

Check out the FAQ "if only I'd have known". There are a few "receiver hints" at the bottom.

budget wise I would like to stay around $500 - 600 range

the room is very large basicly takes up half of basement it is retangular with compants at one end of room

I am Just running KLH 911b fronts and KLH 9900 series sats, center and passive sub

I like the 640 but I dont really need the compont switching unless the bandwith is enough to run 1080I signal through it (I dont really need have enough componets jacks on hdtv set) Also upconversion is nice but dont need either so I was looking for a reciever that had better features or more power instead of convience features(ie componet switching and upconversion)

I hope this helps

any other recievers in same price range would help

thanks
