Thanks to my wife we are purchasing this model Samsung from sears. My problem is that I can't seem to find any information about it anywhere except on Sears' website. It's not on Samsung's site either.

Can anyone shed any light on this model? Is it a old or new model? I'm new to HDTV and I personnaly wanted to go with Mitsubishi or Toshiba. My wife and I agreed that the Samsung had the clearest brightest picture.

Where does Samsung Rear Projection HDTV monitors rank in the HDTV world?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum:

I did a web search and couldn't find that model either (if you have the proper number).

Be advised that the picture quality that you see in the store is irrelevant when shopping for an HDTV. As counter-intuitive as this sounds, unless you go to a small dealer that calibrates all his display models, the picture you see in the store will bear no resemblance to the picture you should see at home.

So go check out the Toshibas, Mits and Hitachis if it's not too late. Also read the FAQ post "what you need to do to your new HDTV" as this will provide further background on this issue. The FAQ link is on the home page.

Since I couldn't find the model, could you advise if this is a CRT-based RPTV or DLP. If it's a DLP, then you can ignore some of what I said above, but not all.

This model is a Rear Projection. You can see the specs here:

Safe to assume by your post that you prefer Toshiba, Mistubishi and Hatachi better than Samsung.

Life is full of compromizes. You basically get what you pay for. At Sears your satisfaction is guaranteed, which is good no matter which brand you buy. All of the brands have their pluses and minuses.

Since the TV has DVI/HDMI, it must be a relatively new model. Perhaps someone familiar with Samsung/Sears will be able to tell you more.

Remember to go to the FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV" as this will improve further on the image that you bought the TV for.

Congratulations on your new HDTV. Please fell free to ask questions or provide advice and contribute to this site.

Hi 57U, well I've been belly aching about buying a Samsung since my wife decided she like the picture on it best. Well today we went to Paul's TV here in Southern California. The guy there just flat out lied his butt off about getting integrated HDTV versus non-integrated. I was ready to get a Mitsubishi 48xxx model but I needed to cancel the Samsung at Sears so we left Paul's and went to the local Sears. This is a different Sears than the one I purchased the Samsung from. Turns out the guy at the first Sears lied about the 3yr versus 4yr warranty at renewal time.

The guy at this Sears seemed to really knew his stuff. That combined with the fact my wife let me spend some more money on the TV. The guy re-affirmed that I should get a model without the integrated HDTV exspecially since we use DirecTV. He told me why the Mistubishi is a great TV for the money we were going to spend. I was about to get the Mistubishi 48311 but then he said for a little more money we could be a better quality picture and a 55" screen from Hitachi. He showed me the Hitachi 57F500 which has DVI (the 48311 does not). I think I read that Hitachi is the major producer of parts for TVs. The sales guy said we would probably find that 40% of the parts in the TVs in the store has Hitachi parts.

I did remember in reading on the internet that the Hitachis are great so I decided to buy the 57F500. What do you think of this choice and why?

It cost $2684.32 with the 3yr extended warrant and I'll get $50 back for the delivery.

Thanks

I think you made a good choice. Hitachi is one of the more reliable brands. It has a good picture and also has many features which you may not yet appreciate (or only come to appreciate when you realize that many other sets don't have the same features).

You spent a fair bit more money than you had originally planned and I hope it works out for you.

Thanks 57U, the money isn't a problem, my wife can be very frugal at times. I look forward to getting to know the new Hitachi. It'll be delivered this coming Saturday.

Thanks for you insight and I did look at the FAQ section. The Sears delivery is supposed to setup the TV. I wont be there when it's delivered so I'll have to tell my wife to watch and see what kind of setup they do; whether they just hookup the components and turn on the TV or if the do the technician setup and adjustment of the TV.

Thanks again,

Paul

I would be pleasantly surprised if Sears did much more than deliver the TV, hook up some wires, turn it on and push "Magic Focus".

If you want the best picture from your TV, you'll probably have to do the setup yourself, or get and ISF technician to do it for you.
