Which is a better connection - digital coax or optical for hookups from digital (Dolby Dig, DTS, PL2) A/V receiver to progressive scan DVD player? Thanks.
This issue was debated in several long threads. I think most would agree that there is no significant difference between the two, so use whichever one you prefer.
See the post in the FAQ on "cables and connections".

Some people say one is better then the other. Ill just give you my 2 cents. Neither is better then the other. They both do they exact same thing. They are both DIGITAL so either it gets to the receiver or it doesnt.
Depends on the quality of the equipment is what I got from the previous threads.
It is not the method, it is the quality of its execution.

I haven't seen these discussions (sorry if I revive one), but would it be safe to say that the difference between the two is just bandwidth?
It is never "safe" to revive this discussion, but bandwidth is not the issue. These cables "simply" move "bits" from one piece of equipment to another. One uses electricity the other uses light. See the FAQ on Cables & Connections.
