I just purchased a Zenith C34W23.

When watching DVD's (thru the 480i inputs) -OR- local DTV channels, whenever there is a bright flash - the screen cuts out for a few seconds.
(such as the flashes in Monsters, Inc. or when a picture flash goes off in CSI)

Zenith Tech support doesn't know what TV's are ... they referred me to a local shop. :-(

The local shop tells me to dumb down my contrast and brightness. Well, I'm at 75 for contrast and 35 for brightness and its STILL happening.

Anyone else notice this? Or do I have a bum set here?

Thanks,

Rich

This has been reported by several other people in various forums - although not a lot. Since, in your case, it seems limited to the TV (does it on several signals) then I think it's one of two things.

1. You may have an inadeaquate power supply.

2. Check your TV for heat - is it very warm? If it is, then heat may be causing this problem because it was tracked down to heat on several set-top-boxes on a previous occasion. Remove any hinderances to ventillation.

I think it safe to say that I don't have a heat problem - the unit sits on top of a stand and there is nothing on top of it .... plenty of space (1 foot) from the back to the wall.

Its warm, but not hot, to the touch - and this does occur even when the unit is turned on from a cold state.

I thought the DVD player (Sony) was the culprit, but seeing it spaz on DTV channels today really has me worried now.

Thanks,

Rich

What fun....

A tech came out and determined that the set has a power supply problem.

He returned a week later with a "new" power supply from Zenith - installed it, and NOTHING. No picture at all. Defective NEW unit.
Installed the original PS back so at least I have a picture.

So he returns again another week later, opens the box of another replacement power supply shipped from Zenith, and upon inspection of the replacement, the PCB board is cracked on the corner. Defective out of the box. Lovely.

What a going on....

Zenith is LG Electronics. LG Electronics - adopt some Quality Control measures .... quickly!
