Hi, we got our LN40A550 back at the end of July this year. We use it like any normal person, have never moved it, or abused it, always turn it off at night etc. We'd had zero problems until today.
My husband was playing Fallout 3 on our 360 (hooked up through component cables, not HMDI) and the TV suddenly froze then the screen became overlaid with vertical green "static" lines (you could still kind of make out the original picture underneath it [this time,] but it was frozen. After having a mild heart attack thinking our 360 had blown up, we realized it was the TV, not the Xbox. A second or two later, the TV restarted itself (turned off, then back on.) All the time we had sound (through the stereo) and the Xbox kept going, so it was absolutely no doubt the TV. A few minutes later it did it again. So, we turned it off and unplugged it for a while.
A few hours passed and we started it back up, and switched it to the HR21 DVR hooked up through HDMI, and it seemed ok. A few hours passed again and the freezing green static came back! This time though about a minute after it restarted itself it froze and went to a black and white and yellow static screen and started making this loud terrible "hissing" kind of noise through the speakers. You could kind of see on this screen the static was actually taking the shape of the TV picture instead of just lines like before. It would not respond when I tried to shut it off, and right as I was about to yank the power cord it rebooted again. I now have it unplugged and scared to try and turn it back on.
It's happening over multiple sources, multiple types of hook ups, and I cannot discern a particular occurrence that would be the trigger or source of the problem.
Anyone have this issue or know what the heck the problem could be? ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated! We do not have any other TV, so if it goes into the shop for a month we're screwed so bad.
I am including one of the two pictures I took of the screens. (After the first two times, I was prepared and had my digital camera ready.)
