Okat the Comcast guy doesn't get here for another 6 days to install HD Cable. In the mean time I'm going batty trying to keep adjusting my oldschool rabbit ears enough to get just a glimpse of HD. But as I'm sure everyone else already knows HD broadcasts are pretty weak still.
Is there a really cheap way to improve the reception for the next week until Cable gets here?
And does the sun affect signal strength? I seem to have the least sucess in receiveing HD signals in teh afternoon.

For example if I do get a signal it'll last about 15 minutes and then go out, and I'll have to restart the entire process of finding a good antenna position again. How does the direction the antenna needs to be ponting possibly change?

Well I figured the sun's radiation still leaks through the cloud cover. I haven't seen it either and don't plan to for at least another week. Lousy rain!

No the sun is not directly responsible for your signal fading. The sun does emit noise across all radio frequencies but it is also a point source and your antenna would need to point at the sun for it to become a problem. More importantly is the fact that the level of this noise is significantly below the threshold of detectability in your receiver even if you did point at it.
