Hi,

I was watching Baseball last saturday in HD.

It's not a format I know, from what I read this is EDTV.

What are you guy doing watching this. I tried to switch tv mode, to fill my screen but then I lost all decent resolution. Color were better than normal fox, but quality the same, and I don't want half the screen with black bar on my projection tv for a ball game.

Welcome to the forum. You weren't really watching the Baseball in HD if it was 4:3 format (black bars on the side). It was simply an upconverted signal.

Fox' "HD" format is actually not HD - it's EDTV Widescreen (16:9) - which is 480P. Sometimes this can look pretty good (as good as a DVD), but it is not HD.

Fox carries several programmes that are produced as 480P (24 for example) and last weekend the Coke 600 NASCAR race was also EDTV widescreen, although likely upconverted from 480i widescreen by the affiliates.

True HD is 720P or 1080i. Fox is not true HD. Hope that helps.

FOX does offer 480p. I work for a FOX affiliate in Minnesota and FOX offers 2 Primetime feeds. One is 480i in 4:3 and the other is 16:9 480p. Both feeds sent to us are in digital from the birds. They are also scrambled by the way. If you do see it on your on your analog receiver its probably because one of its affiliates are having trouble with their digital receiver.
