Here is an article I read that compares and contrasts plasma and lcd. It also claims you can erase burn-in. I thought 57U might enjoy it. Are these claims true?

I'm sorry, the article above deals with plasma life expectancy. There is an article on the site that deals with plasma vs lcd. But, this is the article that claims to erase burn-in.
They are not talking about actually "erasing" burn bars - that's why they used the quotes. What they are talking about is not creating burn bars in the first place by displaying a grey image at the sides, much like they do on RPTVs.
Unfortunately, even on RPTVs "burn lines" will form at the interface of the "grey bars" and the 4:3 image, if you watch too much 4:3. There are some TVs that shift the image side-to-side a bit to virtually eliminate those burn lines, but other static images are still a concern.
Also, the grey bars, are not guaranteed to "age" the phosphors at exactly the rate that the TV image does (although it does approximate it). Therefore, even the grey areas may eventually look different than the 4:3 area.
PS. You can't erase burn in - not without buying new CRTs anyway.

I am averaging 6 DVD movies per week and right now about 4 of them on average show the black bars on top and bottom when I watch them. I watch all TV in stretch mode. Do I need to worry that eventually the DVD's that fill the screen will cause burn in?
Most manufacturers recommend no more than 15-20% static image use.
If you watch 8 hours of 2.35:1 DVDs, as long as you watch 40 hours per week of other things you should be OK. I've found that about 1/2 of DVDs are 2.35:1.
