Whos you provider Superstar, NPS, Satellite receivers cause Ive got bad news for ya. I used to work at superstar.........
And your partly right party wrong. The only reason dish and direct might and i do mean might not look as good is because your getting the direct feed. but your forgeting cable is basically a huge ext. off c-band so i prob will get the same PQ as you....
another thing youll never get locals off c-band. you might get them with OTA antenna but not C-band............
Ill give you another tip. Im not saying C-band will be going away here real soon but you definitely need to look at your other options... there are only around 400,000 subscribers to C-band in America and it aint gettin bigger. there is still alot of cool stuff out there on C-band Im just warning you that there will come a day when there probably wont be a actual provider to subscribe to the services..... Look what the NFL did this year. They completely pulled the NFL ticket off c-band and its gone. so again C-band is awesome, good PQ, and looks of free feeds.... but the providers themselves might go outta business someday......

You guys are both right.
I get my C-Band programming from NPS and DBS from Dish.
I have a both a BUD and a Dish PVR301 running and the HD feeds from Showtime, HBO, and Discovery HD are spectacular off my C-Band. I don't have HD yet for my little dish (waiting for the 921) so I can't compare HD from big to little dish, but I can tell you that the SD from the little dish such as CNN, Fox, History Channel, etc. is seriously degraded from the big dish and I can a-b test them w/no problem.
I get the local high def channels thru a different set top box (Zenith) and Leno and CSI are also spectacular.
I really wish the Motorola 4DTV guide didn't act like Windows XP on an 8088 processor tho- it is soooo slooow. The Dish guide is a rocket and the PVR is great.
I will keep my big dish going until they pull the plug. It's a pain to have so many boxes and so many remotes but the picture on the big dish is just so much better.
My 2 cents.

judging by your signature shaun, you don't seem like you have an ego at all!!! LOL
I wouldn't go around saying you work for superstar cause that could be a bad thing. I have had bad experiences with superstar. They try to help customers and tell them this is bad and that is bad. but really they don't know anything about how to check for the dclight for the guide or how to adjust the skew or how to program sat Go in to get the guide or to do options 6,7,7,8,0, to clear the EMM provider code so that the hits will got through.
Trust me.
but any hoo
I don't mind dish network cause i have a 501 system but the big dish is the ultimate experience when you have the best equipment.
I would use the big dish if I had a HDTV and the best sound system for sure!!!!!!

I switched to NPS a couple of years ago after Superstar said I couldn't buy IFC anymore! I bought a Mpeg2 unit a couple of months ago and love all the feeds I've found. It's to bad CBC is scrambled on the Mpeg2. I took the free Dish that Superstar gave out a couple of years ago and subscribe to the cheap package. I have it hooked up to both my TV's and it does the job letting my kid watch cartoons and giving me the weather channel.
The STB that I found also picks up C and Ku HD signals. I'll be squeezing signals out of the sky for a long time after the average BUD user has gone to the pizza dish.

How much does your cable and internet run per month? There is also Highspeed internet available on BUD. http://www.cband.net My BUD subscription is under $15.00 per month if I was to go with C Band net the monthly charge is $44.95.
The free unscrambled analog channels channels on C-band are now mostly going MPEG2. The number of channels I get for free so far with the MPEG2 receiver, I have only found a little over 100 channels and about a dozen radio stations.
I haven't had cable since I moved out of my Condo in 92, and haven't missed it at all. The majority of people that are using BUD's today are doing it as hobbies, not as a necessity like they were 20 years ago because they couldn't get cable and had no other option to get any TV.

well i work for Cox Communincations and I get the cable internet for free and all my cable services are free. Im lucky as some cable systems still charge their employees not much but they still charge them a little..... I would never even if I wasnt a cable employee would ever change from cable internet. The speed I get is one of the fastest in the nation bar none compared to other cable systems.....
