Buying from UECWeb can be a hit or miss experience. If you are lucky, you may be very happy. If you are unlucky as I am, you may be wondering if all the aggravation is worth it.
I ordered a 65" Hitachi from UECWeb three weeks ago. A week later, the truck arrived. Unfortunately, the sent a crew of two small sizde people. They did not have the experience or the strength to handle TV of this size. They damaged the TV in the deliverying process.
After a week of negotiation, UECWeb agreed to send me a replacement. This time UECWeb changed a local agent. Another week passed by, the TV arrived again. This local agent is very inflexible, and wanted to charge me for everything, including an appointment. If I don't pay them for an appointment, I will need to take the entire day off waiting for it.
The whole experience is very unpleasant. If I purchased locally, I would have paid $300 more. But I would not have to wait or deal with the aggravation of "we don't care" movers. I would get much better after sale services and full warranty. If you are considering buying from UECWeb, you probably want to think about the potential pitfalls.
To be fair to UECWeb, they tied to be helpful. But they do not have direct control over the local delivery agent as it is the subcontractor of their main contractor. The fact the only way to contact UECWeb is through email makes any resolution of problems very slow.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I ordered a 36" direct view and had no problems. Ordered on Friday it was here on Wednesday. If I was only saving 300 dollars I would've went with a local purchase. But my tv was selling at CC for $1300 and I got it for $750 including the delivery, so I was willing to take the chance. That's the only problem with uec is you are at the mercy of the local delivery people.

I bough mine locally through CC and experienced the same issue... 2 very small teen boys who saw the stairs and said "Dude, we aren't paid to carry it up THOSE!" and left it in my driveway. luckily I have 3 very strong friends and we managed to wedge it up the stairs and into the living room with little difficulty, but... I am still wondering exactly why I paid extra for delivery... Won't make THAT mistake again.
I guess that you can get screwed either way... locally doesn't necessarily mean better.

I got mine through BB - up three stairs. I wasn't home (woman was :) - if they hadn't been able to carry it up you better belive they would have to come back...They did get it up, installed it and was there when I got home.
I have looked at UECweb and they have some great prices and I will consider them the next time around, but only if I can save 30-50% on it - no way I would go through them for less...

Usually the delivery charge from local retailers also includes setup, and not in your driveway. In your situation, I would have called Circuit City and demanded a refund of the delivery charge.
Ahh I remeber the good 'ol days when you purchased large appliances, furniture, etc. and delivery was free......

That was kind of my point as well - if you pay for delivery or not is irrelevant - I buy something and get delivery you better belive it will be setup in my home. If they had dropped it off in my drive-way I would have called my credit-card company and cancelled the purchase then the store and asked them if they wanted a "free" tv or if someone else could steal it - delivery is to your room - read the fine-print and make sure that is how you get it!

I had my share of problems for accepting delivery. BB had to make 3 trips to get it right. First time around, the TV was damaged, screen was torn. Second time, the speaker cover fabric was torn. They got it right the third time and set it up in my living room.
Customer service was very good, they did all the three deliveries in one day. The last one was at 9pm. And on top of that they gave me a 5% discount.
People who delivered were capable to handle and haul big screens.

I just bought a Hitachi 51swx20b from CC. They said, "We can deliver it today." Well they sent two little guys out here who tried to get it down the staircase but couldn't. I am conviced professional movers who could keep the TV level could make it around the corner.
I have talked to the manager at CC and they MAY be willing to reimbuse me to have professionals move it down stairs.
Has anyone had any experience hiring professionals? How do you look for people with experience moving TVs?
Now I have this beautiful HDTV sitting in my front entry way that I can't even watch.

just get movers with insurance. The movers I used were great, they wrapped my TV in so many blankets they could have rolled it into my house without damaging it. Anywho, the insurance covered me and the movers so if it was not " in the condition it was in previous to the move " it was fully covered.
People who specialize in Pianos are good.

Despite the delayed delivery due to damage in the first attempt, I must say that UECWeb tried very hard to get things right. They eventually rectified all the problems.
They put enough pressure on the delivery agent that I got a much better service the second time. They escalated the matter to VP of Operations of TechTrans to resolve my issues.
They went as far as splitting the cabinet for me for a small surcharge. At then end, I am happy with the result.
The TV itself (TWX65) was beautiful. Manufacture date is 3/2003. Not a single defect that I can tell. After adjusting the focus and video settings with user menus, I found no need to go into service menus. The red push is within 15% using AVIA measurements, not noticeable in regular video playing.
The only complaint so far is the cost of extended warranty: $400 for three years. Is it worth it?
See the FAQ post on extended warranties. The jury is split about 50/50 as to whether it's worth it. Depends on if you're the type of person who want's to buy "insurance", or who puts the money in the bank in case something goes wrong.
Since companies make a lot of money on extended warranties, you know that, on average, it's not worth it for the customer.
Most electronics either fail right away, or last a long time. Exception being electronics with lots of moving parts like VCRs, but most of them are so cheap nowadays that even there it's probably not worth it, unless you're buying an S or D-VHS deck.
