Component Out

Ok just a couple questions here....

1. Why do NON progressive scan DVD players have component out? I thought the whole point of component out was to give you that progressive scan picture with a digital TV.

And along the same lines...

2. Why do new analog TVs have component input jacks? Again, I thought these were for digital picture i.e. HDTV.

Although component video cables & connections can provide HD pictures, they can also provide a picture that's superior to composite and S-video in applications that are less demanding than HDTV, or even 480P.

For example component video can supply a superior picture on even an interlaced DVD player and the difference is noticeable using a test disc like AVIA. I've seen the differences by connecting the DVD player using all three types of connection.

Component video cables are analogue, not digital.
