DVD-Audio

Wasn't 100% sure where to post this, but guessing this is the best place:
I am getting ready to hook up my DVD-Audio to the receiver. My understanding is that I need 6 cables for this to the receiver - is this correct or would an optical cable be able to do the whole thing?

Also if I need 6 cables for DVD-Audio will my regular movies etc play in surround over that hookup or does that have to go on separate as the optical cable?

DVD-Audio needs to be decoded and sent by the 6 analog cables.

Regular audio for DVDs can be sent via the optical connection.

If the DVD player decodes the DD5.1 sound you should be able to send it either by the analogue connection or the optical, but I'm not sure about that one.

You should be able to decide whether you want your receiver or the DVD player to decode movie DD5.1 sound. Typically people let their receivers do this, so the signal gets sent via the optical (or S/PDIF if there is one) connection.

WOW- I got the speakers and may I say that I think this is a true find for $299 delivered. They are not the small small kind, but still small :). The sub is awsome and the center is good too. Hooked up the DVD-A and it is just unbelivable - if I had known when I moved I would have been renting a house instead........oh well who cares about good neighborhood relations anyways....-as long as they don't own a gun.

There is so much back and forth between cables, superbits 720p and 1080i so it is really nice to find something that can't be argued about - DVD-A is clearer than anything I have heard on a cd. I am playing Metallica and I know this cd inside out and have heard it on everything from shitty systems to great systems and my setup is nothing fancy - good solid nothing more and it is clearer than anything ever before.....If you disagree then please don't turn this into a discussion :)

DVD Audio and SACD really are incredible aren't they. It is a huge move forward in sound quality. At first I was very skeptical. But, one listen, and I am hooked! Like progressive scan DVD and HDTV, there's no turning back.

I couldn't agree more it is just great - I saw your immediate post and figured you would be a skeptic / disagree :)

I was really skeptical and bought my cables and all in a store where I could return them opened - however answers here and another forum told me that I was in for a treat - and oh yes it was all true.

With the speakers I also lost any reson to go to the movies - sweet I will have all this saved back in mmmmm probably not in time for the next tv - but who cares :)
