I am experiencing a very wierd problem with my Explorer 8300HD box.

But first a bit of history.

I bought my box 3 years ago and added an external HDD 2 years ago. Always got a 100% trouble free hours of enjoyment...

but a week ago the box started to produce an "ishing" sound... I unplugged the unit and when I plug it back on the front LCD panel started to display numbers (in a diffrent manner then usual)... and then BAM! can't watch TV anymore :sobbing:

I can still watch the shows recorded on my DVR but can't watch live TV anymore... when I try to see the interactive guide I am being told that I am in standalone mode!

But wait... it gets weider...
When I try to manually surf the channels the only channels that appears are the galaxy music channels (no sounds) any things else is only a blacks screen.

I hope you guys can help me out.

You are probably in broadcast mode and this means that there is something like a bad connection or bad splitter blocking the signal from the STB back to the head end.

Try redoing all of the connections upstream of the STB, remove any splitters (need to be rated 5-1000MHz minimum) and check your signal strength and S/N ratio. Plug the STB into an outlet as close to the demarcation point into your home as possible.
