Greetings,
Being on a limited budget I am, I noticed this new 2100MP projector from DELL (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?Sku=2100MP1&category_id=5188&customer_id=19&c=us&l=en&cs=19) and while it claims HDTV compatiblity, it has a native resolution of only 800x600.

Now... I know that for displaying true HDTV, a projector needs to have a resolution of at least 1280x720. However, since I don't anticipate watching true HDTV material anytime soon (I have no cable and I watch mostly DVDs, currently on a 15-year old 21" Sony) and I don't want to pay now over $6K for a projector that will cost 1/4 of that when DVDs will eventually be in true HDTV - I thought perhaps I can get away with buying one of those cheap projectors?

The only problem is that while I know that ordinary PAL/NTSC analog TV will look great on this projector, I have no idea whether it is going to reflect the superiority of DVD over analog signal.

Has anyone used one those $1K-$1.5K projectors for viewing DVD movies? What was the experience like?

Many thanks!

You will get the equivalent of 450P with this projector when watching 16:9 images such as HDTV or 1.85:1 DVDs. Although this is not HD, it should be "fine". You would need to spend 3X as much for a 720P projector.

Type "projector" into the site's search engine and you'll find some other threads on this subject.

I got my Epson 820P from Dell http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/ProductQuickSpec_BigImage.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=20540838&category=Multimedia+Projectors&nextPage=/ProductQuickSpec.jsp and I'm happy with it. I was using a ViewSonic 800x600 projector and although not true HD the Image was still pretty darn good. Get minimum XGA resolution though you won't be sorry' also make sure you can select between progressive scan and interlaced, the viewsonic didn't work with my Panasonic DVD but the Epson works great. Great thing about projectors is that you dont have a big honkin box in the living room. I use a pull down screen and my wife dosen't mind it at all. Its the only way she is going to let me have a big screen TV. A good site to go to is http://www.projectorpeople.com
