Okay. First post, but I've been checking over the last year's worth of posts to find a solution. Looks like a great community here with some knowledgeable people, so I hope I can get a fix for my problem.
Got a Mitsu WS-55511 from a friend when he upgraded to a 60" DLP. He acquired the WS used about 2 years ago and after getting it he had a guy flown down to give it a top-to-bottom calibration. The adjustments that were made are all written down and I've got them now in case anything needs to be referenced. The set never gave my friend any problems except at some point he unplugged the front panel because it was causing the remote to not operate correctly (seen that problem here too). However he probably only ever used the component and DTV inputs.
_My_ problem is simply this: More and more, I can't get a picture from any of the S-Video/Composite inputs. It's an intermittent problem... I feel like if I goof around in the NetCommand menu enough deleting and re-adding and changing inputs, the picture will come back. Then one day I'll switch back from the non S/Composite inputs and it'll be black. Heck, one evening it went black right in front of my eyes! No fade, just *zip* with a little smear of color and it's gone.
I've read all the posts on the convergence IC going bad, but I don't think that's what is going on here. When on an S/Composite input, the menu is fine. The info/sleep/adjustment overlays are fine. And of course the DVD player (Component) or the XBox (DTV) always work without problem. This tells me the whole CRT system is up and running.
The real kicker (to me) is this: If you bring up the PIP, there's the picture! I could watch the cable box in the PIP all day (except for there being no audio). With the PIP up, the main screen is grey (maybe this is a clue). Similarly, if you are looking at the black screen on the cable box input and bring up the info overlay, it will happily tell you the rating (TV-PG) of the show. And I know this information is carried in the vertical blanking above the picture. So the set is getting the video signal, it's just not displaying it.
Sound familiar to anyone? Any advice on things to try or play with? It feels like it's just some kind of setting I've got wrong somewhere. Oh, speaking of settings (and maybe this is my downfall) I went through the whole NetCommand setup if only so I could put labels on each of the inputs. However, the majority of the inputs (okay, all of them except the DVD player) are 'Other's, and I don't have anything hooked up to the TV to control the DVD player via the TV.
Also just because it may be important... I've been using our cable box universal remote for most day-to-day operations. It works pretty well (some of the commands appear on weird buttons) but every once in a while the TV will complain that I should put the remote into NetCommand mode. I did put the Mitsu remote into NC mode, but obviously there's no way to do that with the universal. Maybe that's important somehow, I don't know.
I hope this post isn't too long. I'd like to get as much info as I can up front, just to be helpful.
Thanks in advance guys. Hope your 2009s are going well.
