I basically got this beast for free from a friend (He was ditching it for a Mistubishi DLP) because of its issue converging.

Long story short I've read how to tap into the menu and adjust the grid but I seem to have a few problems that this doesn't fix:

1.) Even after I adjust it, the TV will randomly go back to the original setting and the convergence looks terrible again.

2.) If I go to turn the TV back on, it'll forget the settings and "Loading" the previous profile settings doesn't put it back where it is supposed to be.

3.) It seems to only be a problem on the left side of the TV screen, its basically split right down the middle and everything to the left looks like hell...the right side looks perfect.

Also as a sidenote, when I'm adjusting the Convergence grid I seem to notice its not a square and straight grid, it seems "warped" kind of like on a bad CRT monitor.

I've read up on resoldering the transistors on the circuit board under its heatsink because apparently after 3-4 years of use the solder just goes out which makes sense ... basically I was wondering if there were any parts that I had to order or is it just a simple resoldering job??

-Thanks

Thanks for the response, although this mentions CRT based RPTVs ... does this cover my Apex as well? I wasn't sure if that model is considered CRT or not.

Thanks

Is this considered a CRT RPTV?

Apex GB65HD09W:

I figure since its a RPTV the procedure should be the same...

Yes that is a CRT RPTV...

Yes... it's CRT:
TV type: Rear-projection with 3 picture tubes, 3 lenses, 7-inch high-brightness monochrome tubes

Well I've read carefully and am probably going to order the IC's next week.

I took the backpanel off my Apex and the ones linked in the online guide here http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm shows that his Hitachi uses STK392-180's whereas the ICs I saw on my Apex were STK392-020's.

I've already read mention of someone using STK392-040's on their Apex...does the number determine quality or something? (I.E. STK392-020 < STK392-180) ??

-Thanks
