Athena Speakers and Yamaha Reciever
I was wondering if any one has this combination or something similar and how do you like it
Yamaha 5590
Athena Tech audtion series speakers
or what speak would work well with yamaha recievers
thanks
The HTR-5590 is a nice receiver. I'm partial to Onkyo and Yamaha. You can get by nicely with 2 component inputs. I use one for my DVD and the other for a GameCube and output to one of the TV's two component inputs. My HD OTA receiver is hooked directly to the other HD input of the TV. Personally I like running in the 6.1 mode with a center rear speaker. Not necessary but I like it. And that is what it is all about, what you like.
As to speakers, that is a hard one. It comes down to preference and money. Basically what sounds good to you and what you can afford. I like a nice tight sub, not 'boomy'.
This LINK (http://www.stereophile.com/showarchives.cgi?645) might be of some interest. Seems that the company that makes the Athena's also makes several other brands of speakers, ie: Energy. A Canadian company too, can't be all that bad eh? (standing by for a blast from the Canadian contingent). :)
A good A/V store that will give a good demo of the speakers would be nice. Someplace that won't jack the controls around to make one set 'seem' to sound better than another.
I have seen some very inexpensive 5.1 speaker systems that sound great. Best to get a timbre matched system, all the speakers matched in the high/mid range so when the sound image moves from side to side and/or front to back in your 5.1/6.1 system the tonal quality doesn't change. You know what I mean?
Also do a forum search for 'speaker' and read all the posts that apply, there are a lot. I don't think there is anything in the FAQ's about speakers.
Good Luck and enjoy (sorry for the long post)
Lee
P.S., you don't have to double post a question. Everyone uses the 'view new posts' to catch everything new. All posts get looked at. I check at least twice a day so I don't get buried in new posts :) but I'm a HDTVoice addict.
