View Full Version : Missing channels on my new box.

My new Zenith SAT520 replaced a Sony B55. The B55 could get the DirecTV channels 240 and 248 just fine, as does the Hughes receiver in another room still today, but the Zenith will NOT pick up these two channels!

It says there is no signal, even though the strength meter is showing the following:

SAT A = 94 (trans 1)
SAT B = 78 (trans 22)
SAT C = 79 (trans 8)

I contacted Zenith and they said that my dish should be adjusted to get all signals about 85 or so, but I have always heard that 78 was PLENTY and as long as you had 60+, you got a lock.

Well, I tried my best, and the best I could get is what you see above (no change from what it was to start with...an hour flushed).

Is it possible that my Zenith is malfunctioning?

Does anyone know what adjustment (azim, elev, tilt) I should be tweaking given that Sat A is great, but B and C need to improve?

BTW, the suggested setting from my Hughes box is different (202, 50, 68) than the Zenith (198, 49, 70).

Thanks.

I'm not seeing the connection between Channels 240 (FX) and 248 (HSN) and Sats B or C? Since those are both part of Total Choice (the base package), isn't it fair to assume they must be on Sat A, since you can get Total Choice with a round dish?

That sounds plausible, but in any case I figured it out.

What was happening is that one of my two diplexers (the one in the attic I think...lots of heat up there) was going bad.

I dropped another cable from my OTA ant. to the TV bypassing the diplexers and bingo....all channels came in (although 240 and 248 still say they are not as strong as the others according to the strength monitor that Zenith has).
