HD channels do not WOW me. In addition, non-HD channels seem out of focus or blurry, with really poor resolution. What gives? Is it my unit?

While some Sat channels do look a little blurry and pixelated, the HD Channels look quite amazing. Maybee you have something else interfering with the quality of your picture.
