View Full Version : Is my Mitsubishi WD-62927 Garbage?

So apparently I made the mistake of spending the extra money to purchase the state of the art WD-62927 right after it came out for $6,000 in early 2005. I figured spending the extra money on Mitsubishi would be worth it since it was the new 1080P and Mitsubishi has a good name.

So Long story short, my TV that currently sells for a tad over $2,000 (now) has a faulty Light Engine (or Optical Block, whatever you may call it) and apparently Mitsubishi wants $1,002 for the part (That's right ONE THOUSAND TWO DOLLAR :sobbing:)

Apparently these Light Engines have been a thorn in the side of Mitsubishi: What were they thinking putting such an expensive part (that turns out to be faulty) in a TV of there's?

With no Warranty, any recommendations that don't involve a Sledge Hammer or a Shot Gun will gladly be accepted.

This is not only an issue with Mits, but with all manufacturers that used light engines - like Sony, etc. You were one of the unlucky ones. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do except scrap the TV or repair it. Sony did offer an extended warranty for some models - perhaps you can check with Mits by e-mailing them to see if they're willing to share the pain in light of the expensive purchase.

Since you can purchase a 67" (or 61") LED DLP from Samsung (model 750) for under $2K, it's probably better to purchase a new TV if you can't get a less expensive repair.

At that size, plasma and LCD flat panels still cost a lot of money.
