just got the samsung sir-t151 and am able to receive most local stations WITHOUT an antenna! i just plug the 75ohm cable into the sammy and point the other end up in the air and it gets the signal. not too strong, most pixelate every few seconds, but NBC and WB come in solid. i am in a hi-rise in DC with good views so i figured the signals would be pretty strong.

here's the weird part - all the sound is super high-pitched. this is not the 'electrical whine' problem others have reported with the sir-t151, but all the voices sound like chipmunks. i've tried the regular analog rca outs and digital coax out into my jvc receiver but they both do the same thing on all the channels i get. commercials too. could this be a result of weak signal strength? even on NBC and WB which are strong signals?

i want to get a gemini antenna, but figure i better know if this box is defective first - i got it refurbed on ebay...

When you get your new box consider a Zenith Silver Sensor indoor set top antenna. It is highly rated ny users in urban areas. Cost is about 40 bucks. Very good at overcoming multipath from signals bouncing off tall buildings and tree's.

i thought the Gemini ZHDTV1 and the Silver Sensor are the same antenna, right? anyway, i ordered the Gemini ZHDTV1 from amazon for $25. i predict it will perform rather well as i was able to receive many hd signals simply by holding the 75ohm cable in the air connected to the sammy on the other end. actually, the strongest reception occured when i held the cable by the connector threads with my left hand and grasped the little center pin with my right, thus incorporating all my bodily electrons as receivers.

i told samsung about the high pitched whine too (the same annoyance others have reported) which mine did even when powered off. they didn't seem too concerned about that, so i have doubts as to whether that will be fixed. wouldn't that require a new power supply?

as long as they fix the "chipmunks on helium" voices...
