View Full Version : "Get Out!" degraded PQ

I can't be the *only* one noticing the drastic reduction in picture quality and production value that started with the latest season!

It looks like they're now producing the *whole* show on consumer-grade, inexpensive shaky hand-held cameras, then probably post-production on a laptop! Yuck! (The first episode in Hawaii looked like it was sent over the internet.)

I understand that everyone needs to cut expenses, these days, and the cheaper equipment has its uses (such as sticking it out the window on a rainy dirt backroad, attaching to an ATV or clips taken unerwater. But to produce the *entire program* this way is just wrong. The beautiful scenery is being squandered on cheap equipment. (For comparison, they're still running old episodes almost daily.)

Guess I just expect more from HDNet, especially from folks who historically have been worried over the years about degrating PQ, lowered bitrates, and so on...

Yeah, Most of the stuff shot before '09 is excellent quality. That's how you can make the comparison. Even the material from the earliest time ('04, '05 up through '08) PQ is way better. These are the ones they're showing every day during the week. Thursday evening are mostly the newest ones. I can only assume they just don't want to lug the high-quality HD gear (big cameras, tripods, lights, reflectors, + someone to hold them) into these remote locations, anymore. Guess I'll just have to give them credit for making it look as good as it does. On the upside, the model body close-up pan shots are way closer-up than usual (maybe too close)!

At least "Get Out!" PQ isn't as bad as that late-night HD sci-fi show on Cinemax. Despite the better-than-usual acting, camera movement shots and halfway-decent SFX quality, (esp. for this type programming) here's one that *definitely* looks like it was post-produced at home and sent over the internet, highly compressed and complete with dropped frames!
