This is probally a real dumb question. I have always thought when a person is talking on the far right of the screen his or her voice comes out the right speaker, but today I was noticing every DVD I watch all the voices just come out the center channel even if they are on the far right or left sides of the screen, but sound effects and other stuff still come out the left and right speakers. Is this has how it has always been with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1, or is there something wrong with my reciever, speakers, wrong settings on my reciever, etc, or something like that that I have set up wrong?
Thanks

Dialogue is typically now on the center speaker. Sound effects and music are on the other 5 typically. Although, as mentioned above, if an actor comes from the right and exits the left, sometimes the sound mix follows him.

There is likely nothing wrong with your system.

For Pro-Logic, all voices came out of the center channel. Make sure you have selected the DD sound track on your disk rather than the default pro-logic sound track.

Only a few disks have outstanding voices that come out of the L/R speakers if the actors are shot wide. Many disks do not bother.

DITTO on the above quote. For some reason some DVD's default to DD2.0 Prologic instead of DD5.1. Its the first thing I check on a new DVD. Releases of older movies are sometime only Prologic and some (shudder) are only Mono.
