My wife & I have recently finished our 5-month "journey" through the process of designing and constructing a new Home Theater. We are thrilled at the results, and the 25 or so people who have seen it have all left very impressed.

While some publicatoins claim a Home Theater is ANY room that has a 42" or larger Widescreen TV/Screen with 5.1 or better Surround Sound, most of the publications I read seem to imply you have to have a true Theater Room with Front Projection (what we did) or at least a large built-in RPTV. HDTV is a must in any configuration.

That said, I certainly learned alot during our planning by reading, seeing photos, and seeing other Theaters. Alot of people have some pretty great ideas, and you can "pick and choose" little ideas for your own theater.

I'd like to see photos of other Theaters as much as some of you might want to see mine...

I WOULD BE WILLING TO START THIS THREAD BY SHARING SOME PHOTOS, if there is a general feeling this is a good idea - IS IT?

If so...what is the best way?

I'd love to see pictures!

My wife and I have a dilemma with our space. We have an oddly
shaped niche and right now we have a cabinet that we bought and angled in to the space. We have been to Lowe's to see if they can do a built-in, but they cannot really accomodate the shape of our trapezoid space.

So it looks like our only option is to have somebody custom build a solution, which is sure to be $$$.

Perhaps I will take a few pictures and post them here to see if I can solicit any good ideas...

I have seen other sites have a gallery section similar to this (http://reefcentral.com/gallery/?s=&menu=5) one. There is another Home Theater Forum that I browse that has this type of layout, and has sections for different types of theaters... Rear Projection, Direct View, Projectors..... it seems to work well for them. ;)

I certainly can use my DSL service to create a WEB site with the photos...can build it in an hour or so...that's one way to show mine...but I was hoping there was some facility here on this board to do it so we could all share to each other........any ideas?

Moderator (or anyone else) - any ideas?

Several people, including me, have posted pictures of our Home Theatres in this forum.

Home Theatres don't have to be limited by size, type of equipment, etc. I would think that any half decent TV, combined with surround sound would "qualify".

You have a nice setup!

In my original message, I was just conveying that there is a standard definition of Home Theater as any room with a 42" or more widescreen image (TV or other) and at least 5.1 surround sound.

Other boards have sections where you can actually upload a WEB page to accomplish this capability. I saw that you have a link for your pictures set up here....but the idea is for something more robust, so that its easy for everyone to locate and browse.... I may end up just linking mine in here to a full WEB site to show an album of photos, and hopefully others will take from this lead....

OK..I gave it 5 minutes of thought....and 30 minutes of effort....I hope others add to this thread with their photos - I learned alot about equipment and design tips from reading magazines and seeing other Theater photos.

Here's a WEB site with my THEATER PHOTOS. I may expand this going forward...depending on the feedback:

Looks like a nice comfy setup...great place to relax!

I haven't mastered taking screen shots with my (non-digital) camers yet...and the few I took certainly don;t do the 1080i resolution justice...but I'll continue to update my Theater photo page with more photos going forward.

ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS HOME THEATER PHOTOS - WE'D SURE LIKE TO SEE THEM HERE!!!

Wow, pradike- that is one of the more impressive set ups I have seen! I love the architectural details of the coiffered ceilings, wainscotting and everything!! Is that a basement?

Thanks Kojak Light for the kind words.

Yes...we wanted to do a quality entertainment room with a Theater the RIGHT way...and also add alot of contemporary clean design ideas (such as the arches, columns, custom cabinets, granite counter tops, and LOTS & LOTS of hand cut and installed trim moulding).

The highest compliment we get is when we are asked if this is a basement facility - even our electrician commented that you really can't tell. We have 9' ceilings in the Theater and Billiard room areas, with 8' ceilings everywhere else. There is heavily padded Berber carpet everywhere except the Kitchen/Bar and Bathroom - which are both 13" X 13" Tile floors.

In answer to your question. Yes, this is basement space - about 1200 Sq. Ft. or so in total. The theater is 16 X 21.5 ft.

I can't take much credit for the fine detail in design - my wife is the artistic talent in this household - I'm the techy guy. She found a local artist who hand painted the Theater wall arches to look like veined stucco - a neat effect. She also did a faux paint job with 3-d fern effects in the full bathroom.

Our success to get this project done with great results really came from 3 months of planning before we even talked to a contractor. In addition, we got great audio/viedo advise from a local Atlanta area firm called Homewaves, Inc. When they proposed our entire setup (from AudioQuest Quad 4 cables to Snell speakers, to Onkyo equipment), I actually did alot of reading and comparisons - and learned they really steered us right on some great equipment. The 7.1 THX sound and 100" HDTV video are spoiling us big time.

I guess this is a great testimony that you can do anything given time and money (even borrowed money!).

HOPEFULLY, OTHERS WILL SHARE their photos here as well. We have 3 people with home theaters within a block of us, all quite unique, and all have some nice details in them. One guy spent over 150K on his (out of my league!). No matter what the cost or designs, I believe that everyone can learn from everyone else on something like this.

Is there a good site where others have shared their Home Theater Photos?

By typing "home theater photo" (no quotes) into my favourite search engine I found group sites and individuals...

You could try some permutations of similar words...

Thanks, but been down that road.

I just thought the infomation and ideas would be helpful for those who are considering a Home Theater in the near future. I have 2 neighbors who already saw mine, and actually took hand-written notes on some ideas for theirs...they also asked if there was any good place to see others as well.

The problem is if you search using the words Home Theater or Home Theater phoyos...you get hundreds of hits, but few good sites that actually have Home Theater photos - you get everything from a college kids 27" TV with Radio Shack surround to real Theaters - not Home Theaters...

Oh well...it was just an idea for the good of my fellow personkind....

57U and Ldogg,

Why aren't your photos in the Gallery? :) They definitely belong there!

Nice HT's guy's. I had limited space soooo. I had a hole cut in the wall for the Mitsu 62". It was $250 more than a stand, put the components behind the wall. I'm using IR sensors for the equipment.

Like the TV in the wall, way better than having it on a stand.
