I see that Philips sets are not very popular here. I guess probably because they're kind of scarce. I got one a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it. The reviews I read were all really positive. Set initially came out a couple of years ago at an MSRP of about $4500. I got a "Factory Renewed" model at onecall.com for $1800. I use it with a JVC DVD player and Dish 6000 which gives me CBS-HD and HBO-HD. Bring on the HD programming.!!!!

I also have a 55PP9701 that I love. The picture is fantastic! I got mine as a closeout at Best Buy for 2200 and haven't had even the slightest problem. I did break down and get the 4 year warranty for 300 bucks, but i figure on this thing the free yearly cleaning is worth that much to me. Plus, I live in the lightning capital of the world (Florida).:(

I'm considering getting a Philips 60". Have you had any problems with it or any of the similar Philips products?

Tricia, welcome to the forum.

We don't get much feedback on Phillips sets, but this may also mean that there aren't many problems, which is a good sign. I hope some others with Phillips will be able to respond appropriately.

In the meantime, you may wish to check out the FAQ posts if you haven't done so already. They are located on the home page, 6th section down. Check out the posts "if only I'd have known" and any others that look interesting...

I just got the 46' widescreen and it is great...so far.
I've had it a little over a week and it is great.

I just got a HD cable box, and whatever is in HD looks fabulous.

My new dvd home theater system which comes free with the Philips sets now has not arrived yet...it takes up to 8 weeks to receive it since it is done as a rebate offer, but my regular dvd looks great.

It has lots of functions to set it the way you want it.

Any other questions let me know and I will try to answer them.

I just got my 46 Philips a day ago... everything works great except the fact that:

Whenever I turn "off" (press "power" on remote or press standby button) the set, "I can't seem to turn it back on by press anything(including, remote and the front panel) Is this a defect or just that I'm doing something wrong.

So far I can turn on and off by shutting off and on the UPS unit that I have hooked to the unit, effectively unplug and plug back the set, I know that it is killing this set but that's the only way that's been working. Any and all solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Mine works fine...I have noticed it takes a couple of seconds for it to turn on when pressing power...

Call Philips service...you have a year in home service warranty.

Where did you buy it from? They may just trade it out if it is local.

I got mine from the internet, and they said if there is a problem, just call service.

Not much help, but hope it helps.

Thanks Steve. I got mine from the internet too, from an reputable ebay dealer, not local from where I live.

I can't turn on the set "at all" without turning off the entire power supply on the set then turning the power back on. So I guess something is wrong...

I see to the warrenty cards and all. Thanks again!!

I love my Phillips 55pp9502. If you are fortunate enough to work for one of the companies that support it go to http://www.philipsemployeestore.com/ and save a BUNDLE. Free shipping on everything there. I paid $1400 to the Door. 60" is $1650. I wish I had got a 60 :(

I love the set, DVI is nice havent used it yet, but has been reliable, and the power button can be a bit flaky, mine liked to be unplugged on ocassion like every three months.

I have owned a Philips 55PP9401 for 4 years and the converter swicth has gone out on me twice. It has happened just recently. The first one in April 2005 and now it is the end of may and it has gone out again. The first repair cost me $450.00 and I don't know if I am going to sink any more money in to it. I was also told from the TV repair man that this TV has the Philips name on it, but it is actually made by Hitachi, so good luck to those of you that have this TV.

I think phillips make great tv's. I had a 46in phillips, and the picture was great, and had no issues. Also, the new 30inch flat panel display that they have at bestbuy I thought imo, has very good hd picture, as well as ambient light technology, which is pretty unique feature since no other manufatcturers incorporated this.
