Hi. First off let me tell ya im new to this hdtv bs. I have a Samung TXN2771HF hdtv monitor that I purchased a little bit ago. It's not connected to a stb or anything, not ready yet. Just figured it was a good price, and looked good at store. Little did I know that there is a new kind of video connection on these tv's every other day. Anyways the problem is the picture with this thing is not good. The main thing that I see is that letters on screen are wavy. I tried to custom change settings but I can only get the color I want, letters still look wavy. I noticed that when I change a settting to Movie its no longer wavy, but then the color is awful, very muted I guess. I have a dish network reciever connected to it through s-video. I dont expect it to look great, but I was pretty sure it would look better than my 15 year old GE 25 inch. Is there anything I can adjust to change the settings. Ive connected my dvd player to it with component cable and it looks pretty good. What do you suggest, should I return it, if I can, would Samsung be able to help me out. Since im waiting for Dish Network to come out with their new HD reciever/dish setup, should I return this? Help me please, I can't stand having this horrible picture. Another quick thing, when Im watching some channels, the picture almost looks a little distorted, like there are two layers to it this is only on my 4D-TV (C-Band Digital).
If you have any information, or a suggestion on a better tv, please let me know.

You should check out the FAQ section, especially the post "what you need to do to your new HDTV".

What he said.
I have never gotten a TV that was right out of the box. All TV's need to be tweaked. My Samsung was pretty bad when I got it but after some minor tweaking with the service menu, and a reference DVD the picture is now excellent. Absolutely no distortions whatsoever. Don't expect to get it right on the first try. It took me a week of fine tweaking to get it where I wanted it. Be patient and methodical if you decide to do this and don't forget to write down the factory settings.

Hey Twonami.
What model did you have? I want to get into the service menu but I don't know much about it and I don't want to mess anything up. Could you give me some references? I have the picture setting on custom ive tweaked with that and I have it where I want it, there are just some things I see on the screen and I want to adjust, like some bluriness, and how the letters are wavy. See when I put the picture setting on movie it eliminates the wavy lines, but then the picture looks pretty bad, any ideas?
Thanks for the information.

2796HF is the model I have but all the info applies. First make sure you read the thread that 57u posted:
"what you need to do to your new HDTV". is a must read FAQ.
second make sure you know what your getting into because you can easily mess things up if your not careful. Make sure you get one of the reference discs mentioned in the FAQ.
To get to service menu hit:

mute
1
8
2
power

use the remote that came with the TV and make sure the TV is on at least a 1/2 hour before you make any adjustments.
Read the FAQ its really important also the reference DVDs have SEMPTE bars, grids, patterns etc. that are needed for tweaking.

I'll go ahead and do that.
Thanks for the help.
