View Full Version : Help with Snow, Please!
I just bought a Sony HDTV (KV-32HS510). I have standard cable at this time. I get a great picture through my progressive scan DVD player, but there is a lot of snow when I watch programs on standard cable. I didn't notice this snow on my standard TV. Would digital cable clear this up, or might there be a problem with the set?

I'd recommend calling your cable provider first to check connectors and signal levels. Nonetheless, you pay them for this service. It may be that easily resolved with a few tweaks here and there by the cable dudes.
It's probably due to your newer digital TV making a 'borderline' signal (which may look acceptable on an analog TV) look bad/worse on your newer set
Digital cable will probably not make any difference since cable channels 1-99 are analog anyway.
You may also want to lower your contrast, brightness and sharpness settings (especially sharpness). Sometimes knocking down these setting can help.
Also, you may want to buy/rent/borrow an Avia or Video Essentials DVD. This will provide instructions and test patterns to properly adjust all user settings for optimal performance.

Yeah, it's a common problem. Put an amplifier before the first splitter in your house (most likely right where it comes into your house and that should take care of the problem. Then lower the brightness, contrast and sharpness a bit and it will be all good.
