Hi.

I have an RCA Satellite Receiver which date back 1994 and at the rear there is an input to connect a HDTV cable and I was wondering and I would be able to get programming with this receiver or will I have to buy a new one.

Thank you

Please supply model number of receiver and also explain the type of supposed HDTV connection - component video? VGA?

The model is DRD102RW and above the output it is written Wide Band Date and this outpout is similar to a computor printer input that it as 15 holes to plug in

There simply is no way this receiver would be compatable with Direct HD service considering HDTV wasnt even available in 1994............ You also stated it was an OUTPUT... It would need to be an INPUT........

Ok now here according to my RCA Receiver user's manuel in reference to the back panel of my receiver :Wide Band Data Port:Will allow you to use DSS system with new technologies such as high-definition TV(HDTV) as they become available.A shilelded cable and addittional hardware mat be required and this an ouput to the TV.

This looks like it means some other STB that you then connect "into" your existing box. Then you connect to the TV - but how?

Since the box you have is so old, I seriously doubt it would be any use. Better to get a new appropriate HD STB.

Thanks for tips and what is STB exactly.

Thank you

I've got some receivers with the wide band data port on them and so far the only thing I've been able to use them with is my stand-alone Tivo units. If you connect your Tivo to your DirecTV box the Tivo can use this connection to change channels for recording and regular TV viewing.
